Sunday Morning Program Descriptions

NURSERY Room 2-A

Staff: Stacie Amaya-Martinez, Mary Cullen
9:00 service: Children 6 weeks - 3 years.
11:00 service: Children 6 weeks – 4 years.

Please sign your child in 15 minutes before the service begins and return no later than 15 minutes after the service ends. The Nursery located at the top of the steps on the Chapel floor. Our excellent nursery staff offers engaging and enriching activities for the children. A snack is provided. We strive to keep a ratio of 1 adult to every 3 children. Parents can sign up for shifts throughout the year. The Nursery is equipped with speakers so you won’t have to miss the service. Parents should bring a diaper bag with extra diapers and a change of clothes for emergencies.

PRESCHOOL: Room 2-E

9:00 – 10:15

The curriculum for this year is “We Are Many We Are One.” This year long program offers children the basics of religious community and tradition, as well as the freedom to discover and express their uniqueness.

KINDERGARTEN / 1ST GRADES: Room 1-B

Teachers: Bonnie Adrian, Bill Halpin, Tammy Morran
9:00 – 10:15

“Treasure Hunting, Take Two” is an updated version where children search for the meaning of life. It addresses issues that children face daily, explores the meaning of Unitarian Universalist principles and values, and emphasizes an accepting and caring community.

2ND / 3RD GRADES: Room 1-C

Teachers: Susan Jenkins, Dawn O’Neil, Ann Putsche
9:00 – 10:15

“Spirit of Adventure” is a new curriculum specifically designed for active children. It focuses less on “crafts’ and more on “different kinds of learning, the learning from physical movement and the learning from challenge and adventure.”

4TH / 5TH/ 6TH GRADES: Room 1-A

Teachers: Cameron Morgan, Dianne Rainville, Trina Seefeldt
9:00 – 10:15

Throw out traditional curriculum for this group. We will offer 2 sessions. The first half of the year, the group will “Create a Country!” Participants will use the democratic process and UU Principles of justice, equity, and compassion to create a new country. The curriculum for the second half of the year is “The Gospel According to the Simpson’s.” Need we say more?

7TH / 8TH GRADES: Room 2-C

Teachers: Eddy Carroll, Michael Delvaux, Susan Sterett
11:00 Service

Religious Education for this group will be “Neighboring Faiths.” The youth will research and visit numerous other places of worship throughout the Metro Denver area. There will be a follow-up session so the participants can discuss differences and similarities to our UU faith.

* In addition to the curriculum, 7th & 8th grades may participate in the Coming of Age program. It is intended to assist youth and parents in the often difficult and confusing transition between childhood and becoming a young adult. The 8 week sessions will be held Monday nights 7:00 – 9:00 pm., September through November. The remainder of the year, the participants and their mentors will continue to work on projects. The finale for this program is the Coming of Age Sunday Service, April 2006.

9TH / 12TH GRADES (YOUTH GROUP): Sitting Room

Youth Advisors: Maggie VanDenBerg, James DeGregori, Beth Kenny
11:00 Service

This will be an exciting new class. Can’t tell you the details. Why, you ask? Because the Youth Group will facilitate their own spiritual journey assisted by a way cool group of facilitators

FAMILY CHAPEL

9:00 Service

Goals of Family Chapel

  • To provide an occasional family worship experience in an intimate, welcoming and child-friendly environment.
  • To model worship for children and deepen their religious education to help them understand our faith.
  • To provide an occasional alternative to regular RE.
  • To offer an outlet for children’s need for self-expression in our community including candles of community and individual / group performance opportunities.
  • To build community.

CHILDREN’S CHAPEL

9:00 Service

This is a worship service for our children and youth and will be facilitated by the Director of Religious Education. Children’s Chapel will occur in months that have a 5th Sunday.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Events include potlucks, game nights, haunted church, bowling, and service projects, Teacher Appreciation. Please refer to the Religious Education Calendar of Events for dates.
